Payday loans are gaining significant popularity in many regions of the country, as many people are desperate for access to funds despite having poor credit. The recently published 'Who Borrows, Where They Borrow and Why' report found that consumers in Oklahoma used the method most often, compared to the rest of the states.
The study, conducted by the Pew Charitable Trusts, also found that borrowers in the state were likely to use the system on a frequent basis. The average person using the method of lending, which rarely requires a credit check, was more likely to have taken out at least 17 loans instead of just one.
'Most borrowers use payday loans to cover ordinary living expenses over the course of months, not unexpected emergencies over the course of weeks,' the report stated.
Those who choose to apply for one of these loans will have to undergo an employment verification before being given funds. Unlike some other loan programs, people with poor scores will no longer have to worry about undergoing a credit check, in most cases.
